When I thought about creating a blog I thought about naming it “Holy Shit”.  The problem was that if you google that some crazy stuff comes up on your search engine.  Just trust me don’t try it.  In this verse from the Bible,  Paul wrote about our righteousness as being anything but holy was the inspiration for my title.  He helps us realize that we need God in a very graphic use of words.  In fact, he said this:

Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant—dog dung. I’ve dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ and be embraced by him. I didn’t want some petty, inferior brand of righteousness that comes from keeping a list of rules when I could get the robust kind that comes from trusting Christ—God’s righteousness.
Philippians 3:8-9 (MSG)

In my lifetime I’ve heard the word shit and said the word a lot.  As a kid growing up in West Texas my grandpa would often tell me not to step in some or to get a shovel to get rid of some.  My grandma would tell me I was full of it at times when I would walk through with my second Coca-Cola and try to convince her it was my first.  It may seem a little odd for a pastor to use the word, but ever since I was young it wasn’t a curse it was just something not really worth much.  In fact, a lot of times I really haven’t even given one.

At times there have situations and people that have made me scratch my head and think: “Hooollyyy Shit”.  I would love to tell you those stories, but I have to protect the innocent and not so innocent.  I’m just hoping as we spend time together reading each other’s thoughts, (I would love for you to leave comments or feedback on how I can encourage you better), that we do encourage each other.  I know one thing for sure, we are gonna see a lot of shit in our life.  Some of it is going to make us scratch our head and wonder, and then some will make us worship and remember our great God.  After all, without Him none of us would understand what Holy really means.  Oh, don’t worry…I won’t use the word every week. But when it hits the fan, we might just have to talk about it a little.  Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to encouraging you to grow closer to God and the people around you.
